Lynch Districts

Moscow's districts are defined in use mainly by when they were built.  The Kremlin district, shown in blue, consists of historic government buildings, parks, squares, monuments, and other civic places.  Immediately outside of the walls of the Kremlin is the Old City, in red, which still has many historic buildings, churches, museums and such.  New buildings have appeared along the main roads, particularly along the roads that Stalin expanded by razing many of the older buildings.  The green areas are the majority of inner Moscow, mostly built after the Russian Revolution.  These low rise buildings have many houses, as well as new office buildings which have been constructed along the main roads.  The yellow areas are the outlying districts which have been built up relatively recently.  Included in this area are many of the soviet housing complexes, which are massive concrete monoliths standing above the smaller buildings.
