Moscow is located on the easternmost side of Europe, immediately west of the Ural mountains that distinguish the division between Europe and Asia. Russia is the only country that spans between two continents. Moscow is a northern city, and at 55° N it is one of the most heavily populated city at that latitude. Milwaukee, to contrast, is only at 43° N. Not surprisingly, Moscow is cool in the summer and positively freezing almost 5 months of the year. It's summer highs barely reach 70° F and hovers around 5° F in the winter.
East of Moscow lie several counties, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus which up until recently were part of the Soviet Union. Ukraine, also a former USSR territory, lies to the south next to the Black Sea.
