Moscow (Москва, Росси́я), which became as a small town that grew up around a bend in the Moskva river around 1147, has grown to become the capitol city of Russia and the largest city in Europe. Over the years Moscow has been the location where many important events in Russian history have occurred. Moscow's famous Red Square has hosted many victories and tragedies for Russia.  The Russian Orthodox Church is based in St. Basil's cathedral, and the Russian government occupies the Kremlin.

Moscow has undergone several reincarnations.  It was sacked by the Mongols in the medieval times, burned when Napoleon invaded, and bombed in World War II. Once a closed city during the Communist Period, Moscow is now a rapidly growing market with many western businesses starting up. Moscow is highly popular among tourists who come to see the architecture, history, culture, and beautiful areas in the city.  Moscow boasts one of the best transportation systems in the world, as well as five airports. Moscow continues to grow and thrive in spite of Russia's problems.
