Architecture 497 (Study Abroad) - Project 2 - Information Booth
A movable system for artwork displays
Description
The program for the second project in Rome called for a small mobile information and display booth to be placed in any of the many piazzas in the city. The requirements were that it could be moved easily since trucks are an impossibility in much of the city, it should be able to adapt to its environment and have a light impact on the ground.
I created a modular system that could be used to create triangular/hexagonal or square/rectangular pattern. By using aluminum it makes for a corrosion-proof and light-weight system. By using a modular system, I could create a variety of "wall" segments for displaying different goods or acting as a counter for the information booth.
The Site
The site is any open space in Rome, but the space I had in mind was the Piazza Navona which is an open oval shaped space in the heart of Rome and the location of the circus maximus (racetrack) in ancient times. The area is surrounded by restaurants and bars, and the piazza is often host to fairs for artists. The units would serve as a uniform display space for the artists that currently use easels. The primary advantage is their work can still be displayed in inclement weather.
Post Cards
The final presentation consisted of two post cards that were to be mailed back to the School of Architecture in Milwaukee. These ones, however, never got mailed. These were printed when we got to Paris so we had color printer available, so these took on the look of mini-presentation boards.
